Did God really say…

Have you ever felt like you got a revelation from God or maybe you had a conviction and then you started to question if that was really what God said to you?

Well friend you are not alone… I have been there, but so have others long before us. Today I was reading in Genesis 3 and this verse caught my attention.

And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Genesis 3:1b

Other translations actually read, “Did God Really Say?”

There have been times that phrase tried to confuse me about what God had spoken to me or the direction I felt He was leading me. Sometimes, I have thought that when I have set out to do something and faced an issue, struggle, or opposition that it must have meant that God didn’t actually want me to really do it. Friend, even when God tells you to do something there will be opposition. In fact, there is a good chance the opposition and struggle in your life will increase as you pursue what God has called you to do.

When we begin to question, it can start to cause doubt and uncertainty to creep up in our minds. These can become strongholds if we are not careful. For me, it turned into an anxiety that would sometimes even turn into depression. It was like I was constantly worried of messing up so I always questioned what God really said. Yes, we should want clarity of what God is saying, but we have to be careful to not let it turn into a hindrance that keeps us from moving forward.

We must continue to grow closer to Him so that our spiritual ears become attuned to His voice. The more attuned we are to His voice, the more confidence we can have when the enemy tries to manipulate us into thinking that we heard wrong.

Also, don’t be surprised if God shows you or speaks something that does not line up with your current situation. See God can see ahead and He is looking at things from a different perspective than we are. That’s why sometimes you feel a nudge that you are going to have a breakthrough financially, but then all of a sudden your car breaks down and the dog needs to go to the emergency vet. In the natural…what we experience with our five senses does not always align with what God is doing in the supernatural. So, don’t lose heart if you are waiting to be healed, but just seem to be getting sicker. Don’t lose heart if you are waiting for a relationship to be mended, but they just seem to be getting colder. Whatever you’re waiting on do not lose heart. If God said it, He will do it. His ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. And His timeline certainly is not our timeline.

A simple strategy that will help is to always write things down as the Lord reveals them to you. Writing them down helps you remember better what you felt in the moment and how you received that revelation. It helps keep you from doubting and second guessing. If you start questioning what God really said you will be able to go right to your journal and remind yourself and the enemy that God said it and you will believe for it.

Think about it as you read. Are there things that you have questioned “Did God Really Say?” Have you felt like He spoke something into you and now everything seems to be going the opposite? I want to encourage you to hold onto that hope and that faith. This is one of the key components of “walking by faith.” It’s like we are in this odd space between heaven and earth. We are seated in heavenly places, yet we still wear this fleshly robe. We have to deal with earthly problems that are oftentimes being supernaturally solved in ways that we can’t see or comprehend. When the struggle comes pray for God to help you see things from His perspective.
